Having a puppy is an adventure filled with fun and discovery, allowing you to build an amazing relationship with your new friend right from the start. However, it also comes with its challenges. Your puppy may take some time to adapt to their new home. As they grow up, they explore the world, constantly learning new things. Meanwhile, they can be very energetic, may damage some of your belongings, nip at your hands during play, and may eliminate in inappropriate places, requiring constant supervision and guidance. Failure to manage these undesirable behaviours appropriately may lead to more serious behaviour problems in the future. Therefore, enhancing your puppy's proper socialisation with the environment and teaching them to make suitable decisions in different situations is crucial for good development and a great life together.
At Ethos Pet Services, we are dedicated to delivering top-notch care for your puppy. We offer puppy programmes aimed at mentoring you throughout the process of raising your new friend. Our programmes focus on preparing you and your puppy for the future: guiding you on how to socialise your puppy to different people, dogs, and situations, building resilience, and enhancing your puppy's abilities for life and their criteria for making suitable choices through an integrative approach.
Step 1: Please get in touch with us by completing our contact form in the "Contact Us" section, by email or WhatsApp. We will arrange a suitable time for a puppy assessment.
During this session, several aspects about your puppy are evaluated, such as their origin, your household, any concerns you may have, and your expectations for your puppy's life and interaction with you and your environment. This is to provide you with an initial management plan to implement in your everyday life with your puppy.
The session lasts two to three hours, and a home visit costs £120, or a virtual consultation is £80.
Step 2: You will receive an email that includes the following:
a. A comprehensive online behaviour questionnaire that will provide crucial information and help evaluate your pouppy's behaviour and environment in detail before the consultation.
b. A Zoom invitation if the consultation is happening online.
c. Payment information for the consultation.
Step 3: You will also need to send short videos of your puppy in different contexts of their daily life, such as when they are playing, interacting with your family, and walking. Capturing problematic behaviours without provoking them or putting yourself, your family, or your pet at risk would be very useful.
After the session, you will receive an explanation of the observations made, along with guidance on managing the current situation with your puppy and setting expectations for your future together. Additionally, you will be provided with a customised, comprehensive puppy management plan to implement at home.
After the consultation, you will receive an email with:
a. The Puppy plan indications.
b. A report of the session findings.
c. Useful links and resources.
During our puppy programme sessions, we will assess your puppy's progress and provide advice on how to continue working with them. We will also coach you on practical exercises for socialisation, enhancing cognitive skills and confidence, and general management. Initially, sessions will occur every two to three weeks. If progress is positive, you will transition to a maintenance stage with less frequent follow-ups, either through phone or email communications. We recommend at least five sessions.
Each follow-up session typically lasts around one hour or more. You have the option of a home visit for £80 or a virtual consultation for £60. We also offer session packages at discounted prices. Please inquire about these options.
Behavioural treatment takes time, consistency, and effort. There are no quick solutions or easy fixes for behavioural problems. It's a lifestyle change that requires commitment and dedication. If the treatment is not followed correctly or interrupted, it will not be effective.
It's important to note that dog aggression cannot be cured but can be reduced or controlled. Any dog can be reactive in certain situations, so it's essential to be cautious, aware of potential risks, and take safety measures. It's especially crucial to supervise children when they are around dogs.
ETHOS provides scientific evidence-based recommendations that may help your dog, but it's important to note that each dog may respond differently. The responsibility for implementing the treatment falls on the caregivers.
ETHOS only uses positive reinforcement techniques, and punishment methods must be avoided. Some information advertises adverse management to offer quick solutions, but it can cause long-term problems and harm your dog's wellbeing.
